Roger George Clark: The World of Yesterday

8 December 2023 - 3 February 2024

Aperture Gallery presented the photographic exhibition “Roger George Clark – The World of Yesterday,” which will showcase the photographer’s achievements in different genres.

For the first time since the 1980s, over 20 hand-developed darkroom prints by English photographer and former BBC broadcaster Roger George Clark (b. 1943) were shown as well as offered for sale at the Aperture Gallery.

Inspired by finding a copy of Cecil Beaton’s Photobiography in a local library at an early age, Clark decided to pursue his interest in photography.

In a career that began with snapshots in Battersea Park, Clark’s subjects included many of the world’s most famous photographers including Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, and Jane Bown.

Clark’s collection of 150,000 negatives on subjects ranging from English fairgrounds, the last years of Soviet Russia, and Henley Royal Regatta now form part of the Hulton Archive – Getty Images.

This exhibition was curated by Dan Kirmatzis.
